Jack and the Beanstalk - 10, 12 & 13 December 2008

Little Berkhamsted’s Stage School once again pulled out all the stops for their annual panto, with the wonderful production of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ on 10th, 12th and 13th December.

Playing to enthusiastic audiences of all ages, with a full house for the final show, the cast and production team provided a most memorable occasion. Clearly enjoying themselves to the full, the cast brought new life to the well known story line with a fizzy mixture of topical humour, ‘creative interpretation’ of the script, and - above all - a real enthusiasm for the great traditions of Pantomime.

With the scene set by the excellent Stranger and Junior, Jack and his Mother expertly took the plot forward. Penelope the Cow played her heart out and Dame Isobel - in her key role - somehow managed to maintain the structure of the script whenever ad-libbing broke out around her! Meanwhile, Harp entranced us all. The awesome Giant (can such tall actors really exist?) frightened the life out of everyone and his Wife was truly a sight to behold! And, amidst all of this, Jack’s ‘prompt’ put in a performance that was simply heroic.

The performances on stage were more than complemented by the skills of those who provided the artistry for the inventive scenery, the stunning costumes, the dramatic lighting and musical effects. And as ever, the expertise and dedication of the Stage School Director shone through the entire production. Photos of the show are on the village web site. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Proceeds went to the worthy local charity Christmas Alone, so many thanks to everyone who supported the event. And to those who didn’t make it, you missed a real treat. So - book early for next year!

Cinderella - 13, 14 & 15 December 2007

Cinderella made three performances to a packed audience in the village hall. A lively and entertaining performance each night, the cast had everyone involved and entertained right from the start. It was evident that the cast had worked hard and enjoyed themselves as much as the audience.

The Saturday performance was almost over before it began. Well, not really, but the audience was asked to decamp outside for a short period to enable the Mercury's photographer to take photographs of the cast in their costumes without spoiling the surprise for the audience.

Cast: Cinderella- Clair Seager, Prince- Alex Fellows, Stepmother- Lynn Scarr, Jester- John Berry, Older Sister- Kevin Edwards, Younger Sister- Maurice Squirrel, Fairy Godmother-Alison Asby.

Production Team: Stage Building- David Hutchinson, Stage Manager- Calamity Butler, Backdrops & Electrician- Ivan & John Sawford, Posters- Steve Asby, Refreshments- Pat, Makeup- Victoria Walker, Front of house- Diane & Derick Stanbrook.

Sandie Ash (Director) would like to thank everyone who supported this production of 'Cinderella' in aid of The Airambulamce Trust. We raised £800.00. Oh yes we did!

A day in the Country -Sunday 3 June 2007

A BIG THANK YOU to the garden owners and musicians, to the cricketers for the match, the teams for the lunches, teas and the pig roast, to Michaels Folly who opened their studio to the delight of the visitors. The treasure hunt and the church for the beautiful flowers and the organ music and the village young musicians, the bakers of Little B and the stall holders with the farmers’ market and the little ponies, not forgetting the parking team, the grass cutter and the pay stations, the volunteers from the Red Cross and most of all the visitors, villagers, families and friends who made this a lovely day out.

We took £7.200 on the day.
